CVV Test Mode: What It Means and How to Test Card Flows Safely
CVV test mode lets you run card checkout tests with fake card numbers and fake CVV values in a payment sandbox. Here is how it works and where it stops.
Redeem your gift cards at any of our Merchants
Onyx Gift Cards is a Grenadian company designed to introduce, market and manage gift cards systems in Grenada for retailers and corporations. We are enthusiastic about the effect and influence we will have on the local market. We intend to expand our systems regionally with a range of product offerings and services.
Gift cards are the preferred way of giving and receiving gifts. They carry a monetary value that can be redeemed for gifts at your favorite store.
Onyx GiftCards are “Open Gift Cards” which means that they can be redeemed at multiple merchant locations. They are standard credit card size, can fit into the average wallet and made of PVC plastic. Onyx GiftCards are Barcoded for security and safety for the consumer and bear a disclaimer at the back.
Onyx Giftcards can be bought with a branded Card backer which is black in colour and is designed to fit the card. There is an area to write a brief message to the recipient as well.
Stripe test card numbers let you run a complete checkout without ever handling a real cardholder's data. Each test number pairs with a test CVV, so you can push a payment through, force a decline, or exercise a 3-D Secure challenge in minutes. This guide covers what the CVV field expects, which values are accepted, and why these numbers can never be used for a live charge.
In test mode the expiry date simply has to be in the future, and the CVV must match the length the card brand requires: three digits for Visa, Mastercard, Discover, JCB, and Diners Club, four for American Express. The default test numbers accept any correctly sized CVC, but a small set of cards is designed to return a specific error, such as an incorrect CVC or a decline-because-of-CVC response, which makes them ideal for validating your error handling. All responses are simulated by the API, so no real money moves and no real cardholder data is involved.
This reference is delivered digitally and becomes available immediately after checkout, with no shipping involved. If anything is unclear or the reference does not match what you see in your dashboard, contact support for a replacement or a refund.
Any three-digit number such as 123 works for most test cards, while American Express test numbers require four digits. A few test numbers expect a specific CVC value so they can return an incorrect-CVC error.
No. Test numbers are rejected outside test mode, and only a card genuinely issued by a bank can be charged in live mode.
Check that the expiry date is in the future and that the CVC length matches the brand. If both are correct, you may have chosen a test card that is deliberately built to decline.
