Gift cards are the preferred way of giving and receiving gifts. They carry a monetary value that can be redeemed for gifts at your favorite store.
Onyx GiftCards are “Open Gift Cards” which means that they can be redeemed at multiple merchant locations. They are standard credit card size, can fit into the average wallet and made of PVC plastic. Onyx GiftCards are Barcoded for security and safety for the consumer and bear a disclaimer at the back.
Onyx Giftcards can be bought with a branded Card backer which is black in colour and is designed to fit the card. There is an area to write a brief message to the recipient as well.
A test card is a card number a payment processor publishes for its sandbox. The number passes the Luhn check and returns a fixed result on each authorization attempt. No account sits behind it. No money moves. Processors publish these numbers in their developer docs so engineers can test checkout code without live card data.
A test card exercises two checks at once: AVS, the address verification system, and CVV, the 3 or 4 digit security code printed on the card.
The gateway sends the street number and the ZIP code to the issuer. The issuer compares both against the billing address on file and returns a one letter code. US gateways send the numeric part of the street address plus a 5 digit ZIP.
A failed AVS does not void a charge by itself. The gateway passes the code to your fraud rules and you decide whether to accept, review, or decline.
CVV2 is 3 digits on Visa, Mastercard, and Discover. American Express uses a 4 digit CID printed on the front. The merchant never stores the code; the gateway forwards it to the issuer for a match.
A card that returns S may still authorize. Visa and Mastercard treat a missing CVV as a soft result in many markets.
Stripe documents a set of Visa and Mastercard numbers for sandbox use. The common set:
Use any future expiry date and any 3 or 4 digit code on these numbers unless the test case requires a specific value.
Card numbers that belong to other people are not a test input. Buying, selling, or holding them is a federal offense in the US under 18 U.S.C. 1029, and card testing traffic is a fraud signal that processors block. Sandbox numbers exist so a developer never needs a real card to verify AVS or CVV logic.
