Attempting to sell CVV fullz is an attempt to profit from stolen payment card data. In the United States, that activity is illegal under federal statutes including the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act and the Identity Theft and Assumption Deterrence Act. Each stolen card number is treated as a separate violation. A single transaction or a single browser search that ends in a purchase can lead to years in federal prison.

What CVV and Fullz Actually Mean

CVV stands for card verification value, the three- or four-digit code printed on a payment card. Online merchants ask for it to confirm that the buyer has the physical card. Fullz is slang used by criminals to describe a complete packet of personal information, usually name, address, date of birth, Social Security number, and card details. Markets that sell fullz are underground forums on the dark web, not legitimate businesses.

The Criminal Penalties

U.S. federal law treats credit card fraud as a serious crime. Under 18 U.S.C. § 1029, unauthorized access to a payment card account can bring up to 10 years in prison for a first offense. Aggravated identity theft under 18 U.S.C. § 1028A carries a mandatory two-year sentence that must run consecutively to any other term. If the stolen data belongs to victims in multiple states, federal prosecutors can charge multiple counts, multiplying the potential sentence. Fines, restitution to victims, and asset forfeiture also apply.

Law Enforcement Tracks These Markets

Police and federal agencies actively monitor dark web card shops. Undercover agents buy data, trace payment flows, and identify sellers. Many arrests start with small sales or forum posts. Buying CVV fullz is not an anonymous act. Investigators use blockchain analysis, IP logging, and cooperating witnesses to find both buyers and sellers. A person does not need to physically use the stolen card to be charged; mere possession or intent to defraud can support a conviction.

What to Do Instead

If you see an offer to sell CVV fullz, do not engage. Report it to the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center or to local law enforcement. If you believe your own information has been exposed, contact the Federal Trade Commission at IdentityTheft.gov for steps to protect yourself. A legitimate career in payment security, fraud investigation, or cybersecurity exists. Selling stolen data is not a victimless job. It causes direct financial harm and contributes to identity theft. Avoid it entirely.
