Onyx Gift Cards is a Grenadian company designed to introduce, market and manage gift cards systems in Grenada for retailers and corporations. We are enthusiastic about the effect and influence we will have on the local market. We intend to expand our systems regionally with a range of product offerings and services.
Gift cards are the preferred way of giving and receiving gifts. They carry a monetary value that can be redeemed for gifts at your favorite store.
Onyx GiftCards are “Open Gift Cards” which means that they can be redeemed at multiple merchant locations. They are standard credit card size, can fit into the average wallet and made of PVC plastic. Onyx GiftCards are Barcoded for security and safety for the consumer and bear a disclaimer at the back.
Onyx Giftcards can be bought with a branded Card backer which is black in colour and is designed to fit the card. There is an area to write a brief message to the recipient as well.
A CVV test is a fraud attempt. Someone submits a card number with a guessed CVV to learn if the card is live. The practice is illegal in the US under 18 U.S.C. 1029. It also fails at scale. Issuers score these requests, and merchants block the source.
The CVV is a 3-digit value printed on the back of most Visa and Mastercard cards. American Express prints a 4-digit code on the front. The issuer generates the value from the card data and a key the issuer holds. It does not appear on a receipt. PCI DSS bars merchants from storing it after authorization. A merchant that asks for the CVV gets a pass or fail from the issuer. The merchant does not get the number back.
Card testing leaves a pattern. Many authorization requests hit one merchant in a short window. Amounts are small. Card numbers trace to several countries. Decline rates run high. Device fingerprints repeat. Fraud teams watch these signals and score them.
Card testing costs money before any chargeback arrives. Each authorization attempt carries a fee. High decline rates raise processing costs. Card networks can place the merchant in a monitoring program. Chargebacks on the charges that follow add more cost. The FTC logged $10.0 billion in consumer fraud losses in 2023, and payment fraud sits inside that total.
Federal law treats possession of unauthorized card data and use of access devices as separate crimes. Sentences scale with the number of devices and the loss amount. State statutes add charges. Buyers of card data have been prosecuted alongside sellers. A person who runs tests on cards that are not theirs commits a felony in every US state.
No methods, tools, vendors, or card sources appear here. Requests for that material get refused. The term is covered here in the sense fraud teams and prosecutors use it.
