Onyx GiftCards are “Open Gift Cards” which means that they can be redeemed at multiple merchant locations. They are standard credit card size, can fit into the average wallet and made of PVC plastic. Onyx GiftCards are Barcoded for security and safety for the consumer and bear a disclaimer at the back.
Onyx Giftcards can be bought with a branded Card backer which is black in colour and is designed to fit the card. There is an area to write a brief message to the recipient as well.
A CVV test input field is a form field that runs in a payment sandbox. It accepts the card verification value that belongs to a test card issued by the processor. Test values work in sandbox mode and nowhere else. Sandbox mode does not contact an issuer and does not move money. Use test card numbers and test CVVs. Do not type a real card number or a real CVV into a test field.
The Amex 4-digit value is the reason a field cannot hard-code a length of 3. Detect the network from the first digits of the account number, then set the expected length.
Processors publish tables of test card numbers. Stripe lists 4242 4242 4242 4242 as a Visa test card that accepts any 3-digit CVC, and 3782 822463 10005 as an Amex test card that accepts 4 digits. Stripe also publishes test cards with fixed CVV outcomes: one card returns a CVC check pass, another returns a fail, and another returns unchecked. Check the vendor table for the current values. Test PANs and their CVC rules change.
Do not store the CVV. PCI DSS v4.0 treats the card verification code as sensitive authentication data. Requirement 3.2.1 forbids storage after authorization, with or without encryption. A test field that writes the value to a database, an analytics event, or an error log creates the same finding in test as in production.
