CVV test examples are placeholder numbers used in sandbox payment systems. They show the format. They do not work on live payment gateways. Visa, Mastercard, and Discover use 3 digits. American Express uses 4 digits.
The CVV is a code printed on a payment card. It is not stored in the magnetic stripe. It is not embossed on the card face. The code helps verify that the person entering card data has the physical card.
Payment processors publish test card numbers for developers. Stripe lists test card numbers that work with any future expiry date and any 3-digit CVC. The CVC value is not checked in test mode. It can be 123, 000, or 999. The processor checks that the field contains 3 digits for most card brands.
Three-digit test values follow the format of Visa CVV2, Mastercard CVC2, and Discover CID. Example strings: 123, 456, 000, 999. These strings are format samples. They are not tied to any real account. Any 3-digit string passes the format check in a sandbox.
American Express uses a 4-digit card identification number (CID). Test examples include 1234, 0000, and 9999. The sandbox for Amex test cards requires 4 digits in the CID field. A 3-digit value fails the format check.
Test CVV values work with test card numbers. They do not work with real card numbers on live systems. A live authorization request with a test CVV returns a decline. The test values are public and not secret. They carry no value outside a sandbox. Real CVV codes are private. Sharing a real CVV exposes the cardholder to fraud. No public source lists real CVV codes. Any site that claims to sell CVV data is selling stolen payment credentials. That activity is illegal in the US and most countries.
