A BIN test card is a sandbox-only card number that developers and store owners use to confirm that checkout, authorization, capture, and refund flows behave the way they should before a store goes live. This guide explains what a test BIN actually is, how a well-built test card pack is organized, and what to check before you rely on one in a staging environment.

What exactly is a BIN test card?

A BIN, or bank identification number, is the leading set of digits on a card that identifies the issuing bank and network. A BIN test card pairs a published test prefix with a Luhn-valid number that payment gateways agree to treat as a simulation, so no real account and no real money is ever involved.

Key Features

Materials and specifications

This is a digital reference pack, not a physical item. You receive a structured PDF for quick lookup and a CSV with one row per test case: number, expiry format, CVV field behavior, postal code handling, and the response the gateway should return. Every entry is drawn from publicly documented sandbox material published by processors, so nothing in the pack is tied to a real cardholder. Test numbers only function against sandbox or test endpoints; entering real card data without the holder's authorization is illegal, and the pack is intended strictly for developer testing.

Delivery, shipping, and returns

Access is granted immediately after checkout, with a download link that does not expire, so there is no shipping time or delivery charge. If a file will not open or an entry looks outdated, contact support and a corrected version is sent at no cost. Unopened digital orders can be refunded within the stated window.

Do test cards work on a live store?

No. They are rejected by production endpoints by design and only resolve inside sandbox or test mode. If a test number appears to work live, stop and check your gateway configuration.

How often should the pack be refreshed?

Processors update test ranges a few times a year, so a refresh every six months keeps your staging scenarios accurate.
